Health Life&Nutrition

Don Scandal`s cats and kittens, are naturally raised which means they are fed almost 100% with raw diet. I have got extraordinaries results from this kind of diet, they never looked healthier! Their bodies are muscular and fit, theirs coat are gorgeous – shiny and soft . I can't take them off of this kind of food now. The outcome has been overwhelming. I certainly see the difference between the condition of my cats and other cats. One of the contributing factors for how long a cat lives is the nutrition of the food they eat.

My diet consists of 70% protein. Protein is a source of nitrogen, and cats require a higher protein level than dogs. The 30% remaining is a mixture of raw veggies and supplements, which should consist of raw ground beef, rabbit, pheasant, beef, turkey or fish, goat, organ meats, all human grade.

Cats have different dietary needs compared to dogs. Many of the special needs are due to a difference in liver and digestive enzymes between the two species. This may be due to the cat's inability to regulate the rate at which liver enzymes break down protein. If dietary protein is in low quantities or not available, the cat's body will soon start breaking down the protein in its own muscle.

Holistic health care for cats is a movement that is gaining popularity among veterinary surgeons and owners alike who wish to consider alternatives to traditional veterinary care. Reports suggest that cats are falling ill far more frequently than before; many experts think this is partly due to the diets owners give their cats, and partly due to the onslaught of vaccinations and drugs that are now used to treat all kinds of feline illnesses and conditions.

Holistic and traditional vets are now of the opinion that a raw diet is far preferable to the standard canned and kibbled cat food that is available on the market. Studies have shown that cats fed on raw, wholefood diets are more robust and have greater resistance to theillnesses generally associated with age related degeneration.

"Carnivores have been defined through evolution by eating meat raw - feeding them cooked meat will lead to deficiencies resulting in poor health and ultimator ely in premature death. In turn, this poor health is inherited by future generations manifesting as congenital defects." Francis M. Pottenger, Jr., M.D.

Unfortunately, many companies use low-quality—even allergenic—ingredients in the products that they claim are holistic. Many of these products use ingredients that are clearly unhealthy for your pet, including artificial additives, sugars, artificial colors and flavors, and other inferior ingredients, including so-called ‘meals' or animal byproducts:

What's Really in Pet Food?

Pets today are fed highly processed and artificial foods, composed of unnatural ingredients, such as soymeal, artificial colorings and flavorings, as well as harmful preservatives such as BHA and ethoxyquin. The meat content is often composed of by-products, which can be anything from cancerous tissues, to diseased organs and can be anything that is considered not fit for human consumption. If we would not eat these things why should we expect our pets to do so? Even relatively good pet foods, which may not contain harmful additives, with the trend to preservatives such as vitamin E, are still nowhere as good as feeding your pet a natural, preferably organic, balanced diet, similar to what they would eat in the wild. Think of it this way - a fast food hamburger meal may be completely nutritionally balanced, but do you think you would be healthy if you ate it every day of your life?

What most consumers don't know is that the pet food industry is an extension of the human food and agriculture industries. Pet food provides a convenient way for slaughterhouse offal, grains considered “unfit for human consumption,” and similar waste products to be turned into profit. This waste includes intestines, udders, heads, hooves, and possibly diseased and cancerous animal parts.

Iams: A Recipe for Cruelty

A nine-month PETA investigator worked undercover at Sinclair Research Center, a laboratory hired by Iams , and discovered a dark and sordid secret beneath the wholesome image of the dog- and cat-food manufacturer. Investigation into the pet food giant reveals dogs and cats fed a steady diet of loneliness, suffering, and neglect in their laboratory cages.

Wholesome Food

Three Major Reasons to Feed Your Pet a Homemade Diet… by Dr. Karen Becker
http://healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/archive/2010/05/26/three-major-reasons-to-feed-your-pet-a-homemade-diet.aspx

Diet is the foundation of health –  nothing can replace a healthy diet of the freshest food you can provide for your cat when it comes to promoting health and warding off both acute and chronic disease.  But what can you do in addition to a healthy diet, or to improve the mostly processed food diet that most cats eat?

Many experts on cats believe that food and nutrition is the key to prime health and longevity for cats, and I concur with that belief. The old saying "you are what you eat" applies to cats as well as people. A diet of premium quality food, or a carefully prepared diet of raw meat will ensure supple muscles, strong bones, and a glossy coat.

Cats are obligate carnivores after all and must derive ALL their nutrients from meat based sources. They are unable to absorb them from any other source. Despite thousands of years of domestication they remain strictly carnivorous. Protein must to be from the meat!Jesse is writer and pet lover, in 2000 published his book on the internet for everyone to read (http://www.pet-grub.com/ ).
Also Jesse will clearly explain to you the why, the what and the how of making homemade pet food quick and easily. Cats need Wholesome!

When you begin feeding a wholesome raw meat diet then you begin providing maximum nutrition to your pets. This simply happens because a wholesome raw meat diet is just that, wholesome. Commercial pet foods are made using refined and processed foods and thus provide less nutrition than the same amount of wholesome foods.
Cooking kills enzymes and just like with the bees, our pets can do better with raw foods that still retain some enzymes.

The Completely Healthy 'Pet' Food Your Vet Probably Vilifies...

How to preparing the raw meat

1lb ground beef + 1lb  ground turkey (or ground chicken, rabbit, duck, eggs yolk etc...) do not use meats that can cause trichinosis like pork!

10%  vegetables that must be finely chopped in a food processor (you can find frozen vegetables at supermarket)

Organ Meats: 10%

heart, liver, kidney, pancreas, gizzards, brain.

  • Organ meats are not that easy to find these days; however, whenever you can include them in your cat's raw food program, Pat McKay suggest to provide 10% to 20% organ meat mixed with the regular muscle meat. It is important to mix the same organ meats with the same muscle meat. In other words, mix beef organ meats with beef, chicken organ meats with chicken, and so on.
  • Organ meats are a nutrient dense source of food and too much organ meat is not good. As an example, liver is high in oil soluble vitamin A (not to be confused with the vegetable source of vitamin A also known as beta carotene). If you feed too much liver then you will actually cause liver stones.
  • The favorite is heart because of its high taurine content. (You can find chicken heart at PUBLIX supermarket )
Taurine is an essential amino acid.
  • Cats must to eat 85% to 90% meat and 10-15% vegetables. And they need a minimum of 30% fat in their diet.

  • Vegetables You don't feed : any with hulls (peas, corn, beans, lentils, etc,) and don't feed root vegetables (carrots, sweet potatoes, beets, etc) to any cats who have any illness of any sort.
  • Vegetables The Best You Should Feed `purred` :broccoli, zucchini and any other winter or summer squashes, kale, chard, Romaine lettuce, Chinese cabbage, celery, asparagus, and pumpkin. (Even canned pumpkin is fine as long as the label says 100% pure pumpkin.
  • (If you have a healthy animal, you may include root vegetables including carrots, sweet potatoes, beets, etc.)

Utensils

Mixing bowl
A measuring cup
A spoon or two for mixing
A food processor or hand grater
2 or 3 Tupperware containers

How:  http://www.pet-grub.com/part3/

There is the way Himalayans eat raw meat, must to be`body` temperature, purred, moist and very smooth.

Preparing Meat

Take 1 pound of meat and remove it from the freezer.
Place in the refrigerator and let it thaw overnight.

  • It is not advisable to microwave the meat to get it thawed.

    • For supplements: my BEST suggestion is to call Jan Naud in USA, 1 818-261-6963 or email to order: jannaud@earthlink.net

    • and ask her about Bio-Calc-Powder, Bio-Calc-Capsules, and Cod Liver Oil softgels that she has available.

Bio-Calc-Powder Daily Dosage:  1-10 pounds:  1/4 tsp; 10-25 pounds: 1/2 tsp; double the dosage for kittens until they have reached their full body growth.

CLO softgels Weekly Dosage:  1-10 pounds: 1 softgel; 10-25 pounds: 2 softgels; double the dosage for kittens until they have reached their full body growth; double dosage for all cats if they aren't getting at least 4 hours of daylight per day.   That means daylight by being directly outside or through a screen; in other words, it doesn't count if the daylight is through glass, where the rays are refracted.

The Bio-Calc-Powder is a palatable, single product, complete supplement, to mix in with their raw food.  You can add the Cod Liver Oil to their food as well; however, Pat McKay suggest is to give it to them as a treat with 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of butter.  The butter enhances the benefits of the CLO.  The CLO is in softgels to protect against rancidity, because rancid oil is carcinogenic.

else add at the raw meat ` MSE Natural Defense Soluble Probiotic Supplement from Natur`s Pet :
      http://naturs-way.com/pet/natural_defense_soluble.htm

Now add the ground meat and stir.
I find that chicken contains more moisture than other meats and so I lower the water added to about
¾ (maybe a little less) of a cup when preparing chicken.
Mix the meat in the water as this helps to put moisture back into the food.
I find raw meat can last up to 4 or 5 days in the fridge.

Feeding cats and Kittens: 3 parts meat to 1 part vegetables.

Why Switch to a Raw Food Diet?

Cats are obligate carnivores and their systems have evolved from thousands of years of eating a raw food diet in the wild. A raw meat diet supplemented with vegetables and fruits, taurine, certain enzymes, and essential fatty acids will closely approximate the food your cat would get in the wild. Controlled tests using two groups of cats, getting either raw or cooked food (otherwise identical) revealed:

  • After three generations, the "cooked food" group could no longer reproduce.
  • The same group developed serious medical problems, including mouth and gum infections, bladder problems and heart lesions.
  • The weakened colony was switched back to raw foods and within four generations became completely healthy again.

Why Raw Diets for Cats Make Sense: http://www.companionnaturalpetfood.com/pdf/companion_booklet_v3.pdf

Rather than taking chances with recipes that might be nutritionally unbalanced, difficulties sourcing supplements, these commercially prepared freeze-dried or frozen raw cat foods are offered as a convenient alternative:http://cats.about.com/od/catfoo1/tp/rawfreezefood.htm

Does My Cat Need Nutritional Supplements?

One of the most important things you can do for your animal is to give it excellent food.

Because of the massive pet food recall in 2007, more and more cat owners are switching to raw meat diets for their cats. However, most of us do not have the nutritional knowledge to be able to provide ALL the nutrients cats need to thrive. These supplements make the job easier, while ensuring that your cat gets all the nutrients he needs.

`BioPreparation`
Algae concentrates

1) Bio-Algae concentrates is one the best options for producing healthier offspring with a higher survival rate. Contains natural whole algae ingredients with over 5,000 nutrients. The result of twenty years of intensive Soviet algae research, BioSuperfood and BioPreparation formulas are blends of blue-green and red microalgae that contain thousands of nutrients. The most exciting thing I have come across in the past months is a micro algae food developed by Dr. Michael Kiriac, a Russian doctor with a Biology degree in Cellular Nutrition and a PhD in Biotechnology. The Bio-Algae concentrates, named "BioSuperfood," is the culmination of intensive work by pioneers in biotechnology, hundreds of clinical researches, tests and practical applications over the past 30 years. Consisting of the best combination of 4 algae from among some 25,000 available on earth, Dr Kiriac's algae concentrates have been used for maximizing animal and human health for over 20 years. Excellent for our cats, we highly recommend! http://www.optimumchoices.com/Supplements.htm

2) BIO-CALC-POWDER by `Pat McKay`:  The best thing to do is is multiply the number of cats and kittens you are going to feed by 1/2 teaspoon, and add that amount to one feeding per day.  In other words, if you figure 1/2 teaspoon per adult cat and 1/2 teaspoon per each kitten (because you double the dose for kittens), it will work out just fine.  So let's say for example if you have 7 adults and 5 kittens at the moment.  You would add 12 X 1/2 teaspoon = 6 teaspoons for that meal.  And that is a daily dose, so even if you are feeding your kittens 2-4 times a day, they can have all of their Bio-Calc-Powder at one meal, and the rest of their meals can be without any supplements.

However, if they like the aroma of the Bio-Calc, you can add a little to each meal, rather than adding their daily dosage just once a day.
You do have to add all vitamins and minerals just before you feed They do not hold up once they are wet.  All these companies who claim that vitamins and minerals are already in their food are not being honest.  It's not possible for REAL, LIVE, ACTIVE vitamins and minerals to be stable once they are wet...or heated.
(to acquire BIO-CAL , please call Jan Naud in USA phone: 818-261-6963)

3) Colostrum Powder: If you are feeding colostrum for some reason...like for kittens, or for adults because they are ill to enhance theirs immune system, then you would feed just colostrum and not mix it with the meat.  You can mix in Bio-Calc and a probiotic with the colostrum.  You can also mix it with butter, because they are both from the same farm animal.  You must mix the colostrum with butter or water so that it is not in its dry powder form.  Cats can choke on dry powder.

4)`Pet Flora`, Vitality Science` (EXTRAORDINARY!): Pet Flora is a Soil-Based Organism. Soil-Based means that the natural probiotic organisms of the soil are the ingredients in Pet Flora. In the soil, these microorganisms hold down yeast and fungi, reduce acidity, and improve assimilation of nutrients to plants. Amazingly, they do exactly the same in higher animals. Pet Flora holds down yeasts, fungi, and pathogenic microorganisms, while improving nutrient assimilation.

5)`MyPetsFriend` : Is a very special supplements made by to mix with raw meals like nutrient rich glands and organs, enzymes and probiotics to  help maintain normal intestinal function. Pancreas and liver have essential vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. For best results, add a digestive enzyme formula and a small amount of freshly pureed raw vegetables. (cats love!): http://www.pet-grub.com/pet-supplements/

`Organic WheatGrass` Powdered or `Organic Barley Grass` Powdered
are almost like a blood transfusion. Cats eat GRASS!
Staff members of the Institute who lived with cats reported their animals had less illness once they provided wheat grass regularly. They noted that fur was more beautiful, and life spans longer.
Helps to eliminate hairballs! and keep them safe from toxic plants.

Eating plants can be a natural need in cats, they provide fiber and green nutrition. Cats need greens to provide vitamins (folic acid) , aid their digestion, assist in removing fur balls and diet. Eating grass is a natural craving for cats. Healthy and natural cat grass provides an excellent source of vegetation.

Many cats will eat grass for any number of reasons, the main two being to help with furballs and to get a more balanced diet (grass provides many minerals, vitamins and fiber). Wheat grass is excellent for this.
Wheatgrass contains a host of amino acids, is full of essential fatty acids, vitamins and minerals, vitamins A, C and Bs, is high in iron and vitamin K. And there are many enzymes wheatgrass juice delivers.

It is exceptionally high in calcium!
The protein contained in young grass is more easily assimilated because of its small size Green plant cells are the only ones capable of absorbing energy directly from the sun and storing it as the chemical chlorophyll. It has been reported that Chlorophyll has regenerative properties.

Cats have less illness once they provided wheat grass regularly.
Theirs fur is more beautiful and life spans longer!

It's Nature's Perfect Health Supplement...

What is Spirulina?
Spirulina - Probably the most nutrient dense whole food on the planet!

Spirulina is a microscopic blue-green algae that exists as a single celled organism that turns sunlight into life energy. It is one of the first life forms designed by nature, more than 3.6 billion years ago. Spirulina contains billions of years of evolutionary wisdom in its DNA and is an offspring of earth's first photosynthetic life forms.

What does it contain?
Spirulina is loaded with naturally occurring chemicals that enhance the immune system.
It is rich in natural antioxidants that promote cellular health and has cleansing chlorophyll which helps detoxify our bodies of ever present pollution.

How does it balance and support our immune system? When our immune system or that of our pets is stressed or suffering, it draws on our body's metabolic energy.
Pets with immune system imbalance often feel chronic fatigue and low energy.
Small amounts can help balance and stabilize the immune system, freeing up more of our metabolic energy for vitality, healing and use of nutrients.
It enhances the body's cellular communication process and its ability to read and repair DNA, like a kind of cellular tune up.
Scientists around the world - in Japan, China, India, Europe, Russia and the USA - are discovering how and why spirulina is so effective for human and animal health.

Primary Medicinal Activities : Nutritive, helps with blood cleansing, tonic.

Common Uses
: A complete and digestible source of vitamin B complex, beta-carotene, protein, and a wide variety of minerals. Spirulina serves as an excellent nutritional supplement for cats, and other animals.

Safety/Cautions/Contraindications:
Spirulina is safe for daily use in animals, but its nutrient content is so concentrated that it can cause diarrhea and digestive upset if fed in excessive quantities. A daily dosage of 1/4 teaspoon per pound of food is generally acceptable for most animals. 1/8 teaspoon for cats
.

If you give spirulina to your cat, you'll notice healthier skin, lustrous coat and fresher breath!

`4Life Transfer Factor` And The Immune System
Our First Line of Defense Against Diseases...

http://veterinarynews.dvm360.com/dvm/article/articleDetail.jsp?id=46984

Dr.Sam Jones, DVM "A four month old kitten had a severe skin condition that was diagnosed as ringworm.  After four months of conventional therapy, the resistant ringworm infection was not resolved.  We put the kitten on Transfer Factor and within 5 days there were no apparent ringworm lesions remaining.  Within a few weeks all the hair had grown back - and the now 9 month old cat has a beautiful, glossy coat.  The ringworm lesions have not returned."

In a clinical study, Dr. David M. Markowitz, M.D. reports an 84% reduction in antibiotic use when children used Transfer Factor.

William Hennen, Ph.D . - “Every day we are faced with threats from our microscopic environment. What you can't see can hurt you! The degree to which we are able to educate our immune systems to recognize  invaders will help determine our ability to cope with health challenges. I urge all people to pay attention to those things that affect their immune systems. The uniqueness of Transfer Factors is that it not only supports, but also educates our immune system in a way that no other supplement can"

Greg B. Wilson, Ph.D. and James B. Daily, Jr., Ph.D  "Transfer factors are not only useful for disease prevention but can also help with diseases already established due to inadequate immune response.  Since transfer factors-producing T lymphocytes are important in immune recognition and memory, impairment of transfer factors production could neutralize the rest of the immune response in otherwise healthy individuals.  Therefore, introducing transfer factors can sometimes enable a dysfunctional immune system to return to normal."

Steven Slagle, DVM : "Transfer Factors and enhanced transfer factors have turned out to be the most effective and versatile products I have ever used in my 32-year veterinary practice. I have used these products as stand-alone and in conjunction with allopathic therapies in the following cases with excellent results: (Note all cancer cases were given enhanced transfer factors only - also referred to as CANCER: Canine lipomas, Canine/feline hepatic tumors, Equine squamous cell carcinoma, Equine melanomas; Feline leukemia, oral tumors. VIRAL/BACTERIAL: Upper and lower respiratory infections, Canine/feline dermatoses, Equine/bovine scours, Equine septic arthritis, Feline abscesses. PARASITIC, FUNGAL, AUTOIMMUNE: E.P.M., Feline andequine fungal dermatitis, and Feline autoimmune gingivitis."

Dr. Vivienne Matalon, M.D. - "Transfer factor is in the same class as the most potent vitamins.
When do you need it?
You need it all the time.
And who needs it? Actually, everyone. Not only you as an adult, but also your children and pets. And it's safe. I have not documented one single side effect related to the use of transfer factor."

Laboratory tests reveal that `4Life Transfer PLUS` is 437% more powerful than any other known nutrient or substance found in any nutritional or medical literature.

There is
below the resume about how works our Immune System, and what is it. I though you will like to read.
I found it fantastic!

The immune system is an incredible defense mechanism which protects the body from many kinds of disease-causing agents including bacteria, viruses, toxins, and parasites. The innate portion of the immune system, including the skin, is the first line of defense, is nonspecific, and provides protection from many foreign invaders.

The immune system can be divided into two parts based on how specific their functions are. These two divisions are called the innate immune system and the adaptive immune system .

Innate immune system: All organisms, even trees, have what could be considered an innate defense system. For trees it would be their bark, for dogs and cats it would be their skin, and for a bacterium it would be the cellular wall around it.
The innate immune system is the first line of defense.

In addition to the skin, stomach acid, mucous in the respiratory system, and special chemicals in saliva are part of this innate system. There are also certain cells in the body called phagocytes (eaters) and include cells called monocytes and macrophages (literally, 'big eaters'). These cells will basically eat anything foreign that is in sight.

Adaptive immune system: In addition to the innate system , dogs, cats, and other animals including humans have an adaptive immune system . The adaptive system defends the body against specific foreign invaders, designing different tactics for different invaders. The parts of the adaptive system communicate with each other and develop a memory of the various invaders they encounter.

Working together: The innate system is the first line of defense. If the invader is stopped by the innate system, no disease will occur . If, however, the invader cannot be stopped by the innate system, the adaptive system is activated. If the adaptive system is successful, the body will recover . The adaptive system will also retain memory of the invader. So, if a second exposure to the invader occurs, the adaptive system will mount a greater and faster response, usually preventing disease. If neither the innate or adaptive systems are effective, death can occur.
Isnt the immune system  incredible!

Probiotics

The term “probiotics” (meaning “for life” in Greek) is used to refer to products containing these live organisms, because they increase the population of friendly intestinal bacteria upon ingetion. A more complete definition of probiotics would be “live microbial supplements that beneficially affect the host by improving intestinal microbial balance.”

Helpful or beneficial bacteria are called probiotics. Probiotics or friendly bacteria are able to alter the intestinal microflora balance favorably. They also inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria as well as promote good digestion and boost immune function and thus increase resistance to inflammation and infection.

All pets , humans, and other mammals need a healthy community of beneficial or “friendly” bacteria in the digestive system.  These friendly bacteria provide many health benefits, and taking steps to ensure a strong population of these helpers in your pet’s digestive system should be part of normal care for your pet.  You can help restore essential friendly bacteria to your pet’s body and give a real boost to health with a probiotic (“friendly bacteria”) diet supplement.

1) PET FLORA Probiotic (Excellent results!) Helps: Diarrhea, Vomiting, Indigestion, and Constipation
Superior to Dairy-Based Products : Whether your pet has bad breath/gas, diarrhea, vomiting, indigestion, or constipation, the cause is an imbalance of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria in their digestive system. Ideally, the ratio should be 85% aerobic (good bacteria) to 15% anaerobic (bad bacteria).Today the levels of aerobic bacteria your cat needs to maintain the optimum balance requires supplementation with Pet Flora.

The key to nutrition for healthy, happy animals is naturally grown and/or organically grown food and supplements. Raw food and organic supplements are the key to health. Live food is the ultimate source of life. There is no other way to be disease-free. The majority of our animal companions' illnesses can be prevented and/or cured with natural health care. You will notice a renewed vigor and enthusiasm in their play, a new sparkle in their eyes, sheen in their coat, and a greater coordination and ease in their movements.

http://www.catcaresociety.org/nutrition.html

If however, raw is not an option for you please be aware that there are three Categories of manufactured Pet Foods:

-"Grocery store" foods – (Generic Brands and cheap name brands) Those foods found in grocery stores and mass-market retailers are made with lower-quality, less-digestible, inexpensive ingredients and are therefore a cheaper alternative.

- Premium foods – (Iams/Eukanuba, Royal, Purina One, Hills Science Diet, Nutro and such) Foods often found in grocery stores, pet stores, and veterinarian offices that contain higher-grade ingredients, but still include many elements of "grocery store" food, such as artificial colors, artificial flavors, chemical preservatives, and "filler" ingredients such as corn and wheat products, by-products and even animal digest. Yuck! Premium foods are usually more expensive than "grocery store" foods because their ingredients are sometimes of a higher quality, and are therefore somewhat more beneficial and digestible. But don’t be fooled, some of those same so called Premium brands are sometimes worse than grocery store foods, but they charge prices like they are better. They aren’t!

Healthy foods – ( EVO, Fromm Family, GO!, ZiwiPeak) The newest addition to the pet food market - provide pets with the highest quality, healthiest, and most nutritious ingredients. They are typically available for purchase online or direct from the manufacturer. Foods in the Healthy class contain nutrient-rich ingredients. Formulated to provide optimum health benefits for pets, these foods often use real meat as the primary protein source, carbohydrate-rich whole grains like brown rice and barley and whole, fresh fruits and vegetables. They should not contain artificial preservatives, flavors, or colors. They will almost always be fortified with additional vitamins and minerals, and will use the best natural sources for fatty acids to help build healthy skin and a beautiful coat. Because healthy foods use high quality ingredients, you should expect to pay a little more than you would for other types of pet food.

Be aware that when switching to a Healthy, Holistic or Organic food, you will pay for what you get. Good foods are not cheap. They are pricey and will cost you more than cheaper products, just like steak costs more than hotdogs. But again, you will be feeding a better food and improving the over all health of your pet. This in turn leads to less vet visits for illness now and more importantly later in life in their geriatric years.

Vets rarely take nutrition courses and often rely on salespeople for their information.

What Pet Food Makers DON'T Want You to Know…
Dogs and cats have biology-driven nutritional requirements that may or may not be satisfied by some pet foods marketed as 'natural.'
According to Susan Nelson, DVM and assistant professor of clinical services at Kansas State University:
"Natural and veggie-based pet foods are based more on market demand from owners, not because they are necessarily better for the pet."
